Trinity Rose Koch

Since Trinity wasn't due until November 12, I was VERY unprepared for her arrival which was October 27th.

I got up on  Thursday morning like most other Thursday's to go to work.  I was looking for clothes (which were of course all over the floor and not in drawers/closet where they should be).  So as I turned around to look for something else to wear, I felt what I assumed was me peeing my pants.  "Weird" I thought to myself "I just went pee" (I am not thinking water breaking at this point at all!) So I went and changed and started to finish getting ready when I peed my pants again. But it wasn't as much this time so I just figured it was normal and  started the process of getting ready again.  AND AGAIN, I felt like I was peeing my pants. This is the point (yes 3 times later) that I thought maybe I should go to the hospital and get it checked out "just in case."  So I woke Brad up and told him I was heading to the hospital to make sure everything was okay.  Then I finished getting ready for work (I was still sure I was just imangining things and wanted to be ready to go to work after the hospital).  At this point, I should also say, I have NOTHING ready for the hospital.  I had every intention of packing a bag and setting up the pack 'n' play in my room that coming weekend.  Okay so back to going to the hospital thing.  I got to the hospital in my work clothes, which included my skirt and way cute high heeled boots, and the nurse just looked at me like I was crazy when I said I was there to make sure my water didn't break. I wasn't feeling any contractions at this point either.  So the ER nurse called labor and delivery and they sent someone down to get me.  The L&D nurse arrived with a wheelchair but decided we didn't need said wheelchair after seeing me. haha.  Once I got to Triage (where I had a GREAT nurse) she did an initial check and after a few tests she let me know my water did break and I was dialted to almost a 4 and that I would be having the baby that day.  So as I got checked in and in my room and such I called Brad and he dropped Braylee off to my sister Courtney who graciously offered to watch Braylee as well as her other 2 kids until my mom got home.  THANK YOU to both!! Courtney was in town only until Saturday so it was really fun to have her there to meet Trinity.

I was trying to avoid pitocin so my first Item of business was to inform the nurses of that.  They didn't seem to thrilled about it but were nice enough to tell me it was completely up to me.  I was checked in at about 8 and was allowed to walk around and stay out of bed and all that stuff until I either asked for the pitocin or an epidural.  Then I would have to stay in bed.  At 9 the nurse said I had until 11 to decide if I wanted pitocin or anitbiotics (to avoid infection since my water had broken) if my contractions didn't get close enough.  At 11, luckily she had something to do and told me she would be back in a bit and we could make the decision.  Well as 12 rolled around the contractions got closer and I was dialated to about a 6 which meant no pitocin!! Hooray!

My epidural was the next item of business.  I had 3 more mom's in labor who were ahead of me but finally the lovely drug man arrived.  In my book, it was the best epidural I could have gotten.  I was able to feel the contractions a bit still (mainly pressure and a bit discomfort but nothing like I am sure real labor feels like).  I knew when it was time to push and when that time came I could feel everything.  I knew when she was crowning and could feel a dull "ring of fire" and I knew exactly when her head was out.  It took 3 contractions and about 10 min or pushing and her head was out.  From that point, I didn't do anything.  They had me stop pushing while they got the gunk out of her mouth and I could feel her shoulders working their way out and I let the Dr. know it was NOT me pushing (he, of course, already knew that). she just kinda coasted her way out without any help from me after the head.  She has quite a set of lungs on her, a very high pitched cry but really cute of course.

Her measurements were 6 lbs 6 oz, 18 inches.  And here she is!

Braylee seems a bit skeptical here but she is warming up to Trinity pretty well.
